About tclc
At The Coaching Lab Collective, we create the conditions for players, coaches, and organisations to think differently, act purposefully, and realise their highest aspirations.
Our aim is simple: to be “the difference that makes the difference.” We’re here to help you step beyond the ordinary, unlock new forms of knowing and doing, and discover possibilities you may not yet see.
While our aim is simple, the knowledge and expertise that underpin our support are anything but. We bring the best of both worlds: academic insight grounded in contemporary research, combined with the lived realities of coaching and playing at performance levels.
This blend allows us to translate complex ideas into meaningful, usable practice – supporting you to grow, adapt, and thrive in environments that demand excellence.
At The Coaching Lab Collective, we do not offer pre-packaged answers. We collaborate, challenge, and co-create with you – so that together, we can shape the differences that truly matters.
We help ambitious people develop the skills, confidence, and structure they need to move forward in your sporting journey.

The collective
Dr. Charlie Corsby is an organisational research specialist, with a real passion for bridging research and coaching practice. Charlie is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching whose work sits at the intersection of coaching practice, athlete development, and learning design. With a career spanning higher education, applied coaching, and coach education, he is recognised for creating research-informed approaches that elevate both practitioner capability and athlete experiences. Charlie is also a UEFA A Licence coach who is actively working in domestic league football. This combination keeps his work grounded in everyday coaching realities.
Drawing on a strong academic foundation and extensive real‑world coaching expertise, Charlie specialises in helping coaches, teams, and organisations develop meaningful and sustainable working environments that promote long-term performance and participation outcomes. His work focuses on coaches’ observations, paying particular attention to the language and how it shapes interpretations. This has included collaborating with various clubs, national governing bodies, and community sport organisations to enhance coaching cultures, design professional development pathways, and embedding research into practice.
Dr. Emlyn Lewis is an expert in designing, supporting, and sustaining meaningful coaching cultures. Unlike traditional coaching practice that relies on a leader to focus on strategy and operations, Emlyn facilitates coaches to become cultural architects. Supported through his experiences coaching, playing, and researching, Emlyn helps coaches intentionally shape, influence, and sustain the culture of teams, organisations, and environments – to be an architect of their culture. His specific focus includes helping coaches better understand the combination between work, leisure, and family responsibilities. Through helping coaches manage these competing responsibilities, Emlyn is an expert in creating safe, supportive environments that allow people to make meaningful decisions for their work, families, and lives.
Alongside his academic responsibilities, Emlyn is a UEFA A Licence holder, with practical experiences including roles such as Foundation Phase Lead at a Category A FAW Academy and Head of University (BUCS) Football. In his extensive playing career to date, Emlyn has played in the Europa League qualifiers, captained the Wales ‘C’ team on two occasions, and, more recently, featured in the Third Round of the FA cup and captaining the side.
Dr Dan Spencer is driven by a deep curiosity about how people learn, communicate, and perform. His work explores how coaches share tactical ideas, how players interpret and apply them, and how those interactions shape development both on and off the pitch. Dan is an expert in Sports Performance Analysis and the use of sport science data, using both to help coaches make informed, evidence‑based decisions that enhance learning and performance.
Dan has worked with a range of national governing bodies, including the Welsh Rugby Union and Sport Wales, supporting coaches at every stage of their development. These experiences have strengthened his interest in the small details that make a big difference, from the language a coach chooses to the environments teams create. What motivates Dan most is helping others grow. He enjoys working with coaches, players, and organisations to turn insight into meaningful progress, whether that involves sharpening communication, improving practice design, or elevating team performance through data‑driven understanding.
